Here is my new betta tank. I plan on putting some fake plants in the tank soon. He's got a whole 10 gallon tank almost to himself. The only roommate he's got is a ramshorn snail. He really seems to love the space :D .
I haven't thought of a name for him yet.
Here are some pictures of him.

I would suggest you get those "grow your own plants" bulbs from wally world (wal mart for those of you who weren't raised in a small town in the high desert).

They'll give the tank a gorgeous display of red and green colors, and they'll keep your water cleaner by absorbing nitrates.

Good luck... I like the size of the gravel that you chose.

I like those plants I never thought they would work, but when I was in middle school I tried them and they all grew, I even got some for our pond and I see them down at the bottem.

Good job, at least some one does some research.... Nice tank..

Terrific home for him and he's a pretty lil' guy! Good job.

I agree with putting those bulbs in the tank. Aponogetan and the Dwarf Lilly are avail. at most Wal-marts.

Word of advice: rather than dropping them in the tank to potentially rot, I recommend putting them a glass vase (even a glass might work) until they sprout. Be sure to give them plenty of light to encourage the process along (and some drops of aquarium plant fertilizer wouldn't hurt, if you want).

Good luck and post those pics, if you decide to put in the bulbs.

thanks for the advice on the plants. Do all walmarts sell the plants? How much light do they need once they sprout? What's a good temperature for a betta? Right now the temperature is about 80 degrees. Is that to high or is it ok?

You're welcome. Just about every walmart I've ever seen the "fish department" of, has those plants. They keep the Aponos in one package, and the dwarf lily's in their own packaging, so it's easy to tell the difference.

I've been able to grow the dwarf lillies in a little Eclipse system six with a bulb that's past it's prime (in other words, less than 1w/gallon of NO (normal output) flourescent lighting.

As far as temperature goes, to be honest I don't know what the "optimal" temperature for a betta is... but I do know that they are very hardy fish that can adapt well to varied temperatures as long as there is clean water and quality food.

EDIT: My 10g planted has one betta as the main fish. He swims amongst (sp?) chain swords, java fern, corkscrew val, etc... and during the day while i'm at work there's no AC on so I believe the aquarium tops off at 90F.... seriously.

Ok thanks SoCalSunset :D

I like simple tanks like these. I think I might do something like that with one of the 10 gallons I picked up the other day.
