Mollies and Barbs...what???

So I was just doing some random reading on Mollies...and one website has a list of compatible tank-mates...and on that list is barbs...?!!?!? I have 7 tiger barbs in my 55 and when I put Gouramis in there they tortured them...I can only imagine what they'd do with mollies...I have my mollies in a 15 for now, but if they could actually go in the 55 PEACEFULLY, I'd put them in...but I don't think they can...

Opinions???
 
depends on the personality of the fish...i had an eel with a fire shrimp for 6 months til eel decided he wanted to eat something more rich and chomp no more fire shrimp..so i would say since ur barbs sound aggressive no
 
I would say no. however, barbs and most rasboras seem to co-exsist together really well.

I wouldn't put tiger barbs and mollies together. I should think the mollies fins would really suffer. :headshake2:
 
The term "barbs" is too general. There are plenty of barbs that exist. Barbus jae, Barbus titteya, Barbus schuberti, etc...Most of these are man-made variants. Mixing mollies and gouramis with tiger barbs is a wrong move.

I find these ones okay with mollies but as for gouramis, it depends which species of gouramis you have. As for the scientific names, oh well, there are plenty of confusions with updated names but using them still leads you directly to what you are looking for anyway.

Lupin you can add Puntius pentazona I have a few and they are awesome, very peaceful, and look like Tiger Barbs. The males get reddish when mature.

right, I am thinking the tem "barbs" is too general. There are the less aggressive of barbs to the really aggressive fin-nippers (ie. tigers)..... it really depends on the fish involved. Personally, I have mollies with rasboras and cherry babrb and never had a problem. However, I used to have the betta with 3 cheerries and all was quiet for a long time. Then one day, boom... cherries were chasing that betta like nuts... I separated them before anything went further just in case.
 
hmm...interesting. Well I think I'll just keep the Mollies in the 15 like I planned to...

actually, I'm being very "bad"...I think I might get rid of most of the Mollies (the almost-20 that I currently have) and plant the 10 and get 2 puffers...but I'd be doing A LOT of research before considering really doing this...sooo we'll see what happens...
 
It also depends on your tank, I have mollies and tiger barbs together, 2 mollies and 7 tiger barbs in a 72 gallon tank. The barbs keep content with intergroup squabbling in the middle of the tank and therefore the mollies spend more time up top to stay out of their way- and their fins remain perfect. I think this success is due to the tank size
