Are Mole Crabs aka Sand Fleas any good for stirring a sand bed?

Will they survive on leftover food and waste?

How mature does the sand bed have to be, and are they Fish and Reef safe?

Thanks

Emerita species don't last very long in captivity, IME. They require a good, consistent supply of plankton, as well as a highly established, productive sand bed. I don't know of anyone who has kept them for any extended period of time.

Good info! I have been hearing a lot of interest on these in the last month locally. I guess there are a few places online now selling them and say they are great and live fine in warmer waters. Since they are so new (as in newly being able to buy them easily) I wanted to hear more info on them before I tried them. The descriptions sound too good to be true.

around here we use these guys as fishing bait lol

i was thinking about getting some of these for one of my future tanks and if for nothing else food for a mantis in the future because i can go down to the beach and collect em for free

From what I know of these, they will not survive in an aquarium because they breathe air from their 'antennae'.
