minimum school size for neon tetras

What's a good minimum school size for neons? I realize this question probably runs more towards opinion, but I'm curious. I have a school of five in a small tank. I dont' want to put much else in the tank, but thought I might add two or three more if that would make for a happier group.
 
I really think that schooling fish should have no less than 6 fish. I personally think that the more the merrier, and I don't think I'll ever have a school of less than 10 in the future. I had a school of 6 neons, and they still seemed rather stressed/frantic even though they were the only fish (not counting cherry shrimp and pond snails here) in the tank and it was fairly heavily decorated with real and plastic plants as well as other decor.
 
A school is 5-6 minimum.We have a school of 10 harliqins, and there fun to watch......:)
 
I have 15 neons, 5 ember tetras, and one brass tetra (oh, and a male guppy) and they school happily together. The neons have always been the bosses in the tank and have never been the least nervous.

edit - I have a 40 gallon tank though
 
Five gallons. I'm trying to balance the school size with tank size. I have lots of live plants and take good care of water quality to ensure good health, but I didn't know if the extra 2-3 fish would be overdoing it.

Again, five neons, one otto, four ghost shrimp and lots of plants. Also MTS and pond snails.
 
My neons are fine in a group of 3
But they should really be in 5+

You should take the otto out of the 5gal though IMO
 
Five is all your little tank has room for, especially with the Oto. It should feel like a larger group for the little guys in those close quarters.
