I went to an asian food store today. I needed to buy some nori for my fish. What an eye opener. There were live fish for sale, bass, catfish, and tilapia. I went to the frozen food department and there were tin foil barbs for sale. Also there were climbing perch for sale. How crazy is that? Man if only fish in aquarium stores were as cheap as fish in a food market!

Nori is dried seaweed. Any fish that likes plant matter loves nori. My rainbows, goldfish, and barbs love it. You can buy it from a pet store and pay about $10 or you can go to an asian market and get it for 99 cents.

 I would love some!!! I do not have an asian store here :( darn it!!

I just found some for 9.99 plus free shipping on aquabid! for 25 sheets... is this a good price?

Well, you have to admit some markets here carry snakeheads, perches, scats, etc. I don't buy them though. The thought of eating an aquarium fish is horrifying me.:wall:

Umm, many of the larger "aquarium fish" are caught for food in their native countries. Several species of Tilapia are farmed domestically for food. Oscars are now considered a sport fish in Florida, and wild-caught would probably be good eating. I have heard from a friend who owns an lfs that tank-raised fish taste like fish food. He's resold several black pacu that people returned after they outgrew their tanks, and apparently a few were eaten. Clown knife fish are considered very tasty from what I've read, but contain many tiny bones.

no asian markets around here either...but i guess they can rob me blind for living in the sticks..lol..
