Hi, does anyone keep a land crab here?
Im thinking of setting up a tank housed with crab only.. prefer in sand substrate..
I read that some land crab need to go into water periodically to release their egg or for any other reason..

I need help in setting up the tank.. terrarium style would be the best..

i dont know i found that any "terrestrial crab" i have had seemed to prefer an aqua-terrarium. they really come to live in a habitat like that as opposed to sulking in a corner in a terrarium.

i had a rainbow land crab and 2 crabs labled as vampires but they didnt look exactly like what was pictured. i gave them all away though

hermits aren't true crabs but are you interested in them or just real crabs

there crabs that live completly terrestrial lives, but even if you could find one, it would be much more complicated to keep than a semi-aquatic

Well, I just hope that I can set up a low maintainance crab enclosure...
but i do not wish to keep hermit crab..

There are a few pure Land Crab species such as the Christmas Island Red Crab, unfortunately they are a protected a species. They will actually drown in water that is too deep because they can't swim. Too bad a few can't be imported for the pet trade, their population seems to be doing well! :D

I have jungle crabs what have no deep water to speak of.

It's like space invaders, except with little red crabs.

thats what i was thinking of, and the crabs that live their entire lives on a huge mound of bat crap. i wouldent want one of those...

look at a geosesarma species. They live totally away from brackish water and don't need it to reproduce. This is my male vampire crab and below are his babies
