Is My Betta Ok? Please Help!!!

transparent fish are undoubtably suffering from stress ( i know this doesnt help!). Your right - no protruding scales = no dropsy (certainly not life threatening) Try bettatalk.com - ive found this to be (by far) the best website on bettas on the net

disease is invariably caused by 1) physical conditions (ie other nasty fish) or more likley 2) water quality. Fish are actually really hardy, its just their envioronment that is not. I know this isnt really specific, but what im saying (and this is years of experience) is that PREVENTION is infinatley better than CURE. good luck.

when betta are unhappy or not well they will loose color..that's normal. Just changing his surroundings could cause him to droop..they hate change. If the water you put him in was a different temp it would also cause him to pale up for a bit until he adjusts.

I imagine the guy was just upset about being put in a small bowl...lol...Do keep an eye on his fins though and keep his water VERY clean as he heals. They are very prone to finrot when thier fins get torn like that. Aquarium salt can help because it discourages the bacteria that can cause finrot in fin injuries. ;)

You betta may have eaten his own tail. Mine has done this twice. he regrew it almost completely, and then chewed it off. betta fix and a lot of patience (and salt)- It takes a few months.

And like EMG said, they go pale with the slightest change. Once acclimated their color comes back.

As for dropsy, I've never experienced it.

americanbettaforums.com is another site. there is the australianbettaforums.com too. Australian one is a little more traveled.

Thank you so much everyone for the feedback. I am new to this site and everyone has been great! :bowing: I will get some aquarium salt after work and use that in conjunction with the Bettafix. The only other thing I'm worried about now, is to get him out of that horrible bowl he was miserable in, and into his new 10 gallon (which he LOVES!!!), I was only able to let his new tank run for one day before I put him in. The guy at the store said he should be fine as long as I do frequent water changes... Any input?
Oh yeah and will the salt affect the cycle?
