I am very glad I read up some before I got him because we would have thought he was dead FOR SURE! :read:

I also new I might never see him again so took pictures in the bag :).

So we had some work to do in the tank first I added a extremely fine gravel (white)area for him hopefully he will like it I have read they really need sand but I was worried about the two mixing either way he still has lots of hiding places (Excuse the lighting glare etc)

So we dropped him in and he did a head dive into the gravel dead as a dodo, layed there then a cory got on top of him and started to try and eat him  . I dove in (arm first) and rescued him shooing the cory away and gently pushed the dead Banjo to safety toward the drifwood he slid under it when i got him close enough.. phew... NO.. about a half an hour later the silver dollars thought they found a treat and picked him up by his tail, now I'm thinking this play dead technique is kind of dicey.
I figured after they got to know he was alive he would be ok.
So I picked him up having read they are easy to move, and cupped my hand he swam around in my hand I even had to transfer him from one hand to the other under water because of the cross bar in the 55 gallon, owww soo sweet I put him on the white thin gravel and poured a little over top of his tail and body leaving his head and he stayed there until lights out.
So he is fine now we watched him last night with the lights out, he is now hiding under the rock pile statue on the left for the day, now the fish know he's real they are leaving him alone.. :) .
Anyway all seems good with my new dead fish.

once he gets settled in, don't expect to see him much.

When I first got mine, I saw him fairly often. Now I haven't seen him in about a month. Kind of a waste of bioload. The only reason I keep him is they get rid of the anerobic pockets in the sand.

Nice fish you've got there! I'm glad the others stopped picking on him. Cute li'l guy.

Hehe. I had one fish that I didn't see for over 2 months. I thought for sure he was a goner, yet never found any remains. One day while cleaning the tank with the magnet I sort of agitated some of the sand and POOF...scared the living daylights out of me...he appeared out of the sand and started swimming all over the tank.

Didn't mean to disturb his peaceful home! Never saw him since either, hmmmm.

(On a side note, I vowed to myself never to buy a fish I couldn't see on a regular basis again.)

Now I feel silly for buying a fish I will never see, the thought of having him as a member of my tank seemed really neat, he is so unusual looking and mysterious in nature I really was compelled to getting him the boy at the store raved about them as he has one that he hand feeds.
I hope I see him occasionally like today where I can see his head and his tail sticking out of the rock and his prehistoric flat head.
But I can see how when he finds the good hiding places he may just become bio-load I cannot see.
I wanted an unusual pleco or cat I saw a couple of nice ones, one was a gold nugget L18 and the other a stripped raphael that I loved but I read that the gold nuggets get pretty big and are Territorial to other bottom feeders and the stripped raphael I read eats smaller tank mates and the ones at the store were already big so would probably tuck right in.. lol.
Then I read about the Banjo Cats and was intrigued by them we have already had such neat interactions with him I would consider him worth it at this point even if I never see him again.

Don't feel silly! They get even more intriguing when you only catch a glimpse of them every once in a while. Sort of like an, "Oh my god, look who's out!!" reaction.

Seriously, I'm sure you'll remain satisfied in the long run having this fish in your home.

:)

Oww thankyou (()) I do really like that whole mysterious fish in my tank idea, I was about to seek therapy after the first few responces... lol

raphs like most cats will eat anything that will fit in their mouth. Unfortunately for how cool they are you rarely see them.

Some of the synos are very cool looking and active.

I am going to be taking him back I just found out he might prey on my neons, I looked everywhere and it said they were peaceful but i've just been reading a few real stories.. :( My hubby is looking for him now..
We are exchanging him for more neons. :)

What kind of neons do you have/are you getting?
