I guess adding too many gouramis in my 55 gallon was a bad idea

Now I have a pair of pearl gouramis, a pair of opaline gouramis, pair of gold gouramis, and a male blue gourami. There are a lot of hiding spots in the tank including plants, but the male blue gourami roams around the whole tank chases all of the other gouramis when they get close. I probably will have to relocate him or return all of the males back to the store except the pearl gourami as I heard they are more territorial and aggressive towards their own kind when they get older. What do you think?

The big mistake you made is that opaline, gold, and blue gouramis are all the same fish trichogaster trichopterus. You can only have 1 male of this species in a tank otherwise you'll have trouble.

Pearls do best in a trio 1M 2F. I've always kept them this way and found that it pretty much eliminates aggression.

LOL Mellow!

This aggression will continue unless you pull some of those males out of the tank. Do you have another tank or is it possible to return them for maybe some more females?

If you agree your wrong. I have 1 gold, 1 Neon Blue, 2 Flame Dwarfs, and 1 Opaline all males and not one problem. So you cant say you can never keep them all together because mine are 2 years old and still doing amazing.

I removed all of the males except the pearl gourami and the tank seems much more peaceful now = )

Just because your fish have had no problems doesn't mean that's everyday stuff, otherwise why would people be warning others of this? Did the OP not state that agressiveness is already starting to show? You should never tell someone they're wrong just because you've found your experience didn't include that. Fish arn't manufactered, especially not to be predictable, but the opposite.

I'm assuming you've sexed all of your gouramis and that they all swim around the whole of the tank at the same time, otherwise they arn't so peaceful.
