I am planning to get a 100 gallon tank and I want to stock it with rainbowfishes. I was thinking maybe 5-6 Australians, 6-9 Boesmanis, 4-5 Red Irians, 5-6 Turquoises, and 6-9 Dwarf Neons. A school of maybe 5 otocinclus catfish will be my algae crew and a couple snails will be my cleanup crew. Is this okay or is this overstocked?

Also, for plants I plan on adding Java moss, Java fern, hornwort, Amazon swords, and ancharis. The substrate will be natural colored gravel (I'm trying to get the smooth pebbles).

Any insights about this setup before I go and get it?
Thanks

sounds nice - can't wait to see it! I would add more otos tho. that's a big tank for 5 little guys.

Thanks for all your help guys, after some thinking, I've decided to downsize the tank a little bit to a 75 gal. Is the current setup still ok? Or do i need to cut down a bit?

If you start slowly with maybe 5 rainbows and cycle your tank carefully that sounds good. Another thing you could do is add Bio-Spira, bacteria cultures that cycle your tank within a few days. You could probably build up to maybe 35 rainbows if you pay good attention to ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate and are good about doing water changes every 2-4 weeks once established. from my experience with freshwater tanks you wont really need the algae crew if your tank is out of the way of direct sunlight (although catfish are very nice and have great personality)

Good luck with the tank and post pictures.

I would do 10 each of 2 species in the 75.
