How to handle ich?

Ive never used the salt method before so i couldnt help there, but API has a great product for ick, non harmful to fish, plants, filter ect. Its called "Super Ick Cure" ive used it many times in my QT tank nd never had a problem, i did raise temp as well to speed up the process too. They have two different sized bottles one small for 5 bucks and a bigger one for around 8 i think.

Haven't dealt with ick personally (yet) but I have done preparatory research and what I've read usually comes back to the heat/salt method. I mention this because no one has mentioned the reason it works so well. My understanding is that the increase in temp speeds up the parasites lifecycle so you get all the dormant cysts (or whatever) to hatch (they are mostly immune to treatment until hatching) and the salt kills them before they are able to reproduce, destroying the infestation. Meds can be effective but will always (or almost always) call for the heat increase because without speeding up the lifecycle it will take a LONG time to eradicate.

If I'm wrong or off about any of my "facts" please sound off. Educating ourselves in the how and why of these things is as important as the what in my opinion.

Thanks! I've never had to deal with ich before, so I want to make sure I know as much as I can so that, if this moor is still sick and I bring it home, it really is getting a better home and actually has a good chance of surviving.

Jessica - You should also be aware that living two-plus weeks with a bad ich infestation will have weakened it considerably. Fish often succumb not to the original ich infestation but to secondary bacterial/fungal infections that they can no longer fight off. You may need to treat for these problems as well.

But first things first: Have you called the store to see if the moor is even still there?

As of yesterday it was. They aren't open on sundays, and we didn't get a chance to go yesterday, but I'm going to try to go early this week if I can convince my boyfriend.
