How to euthanize a fish

But cutting the head off is considered ok....

First off, let me say that I hate to lose any fish, and can remember each and every one that made the journey to heaven......I took a lesson out of each tradgedy and made sure the same mistake didn't happen to future aquatic friends.

Around here, it's survival of the fittest. I don't take chances. I'm not in the habit of killing fish, but when the time comes and it's 1 sickly fish hangin at the bottom of the tank....goodbye.

Sorry if that offends. But life is sometimes cruel.

I agree and relate. It's about how you say buh bye.

Freezer method works for me I had to euthanize a couple of my fish was very hard to do. I could never smash a beloved pet with a brick or rock just couldn't do it. Sucks no matter what method you choose.

I typically use sudden deceleration to dispatch fish, either the fish onto a hard surface or the hard surface onto the fish, depending on size, may not be as clinical as clove oil but it's very quick if you do it right.

I'll agree with this technique.

nice.

Any fish that is sickly and beyond my skills of saving is immediatly caught and euthanised. I don't think any *********** would argue that leaving them in your tank to die is not humane. On top of that there is the potential to infect your other fish as well. Thus why I owuld never feed a sick fish to a perfectly healthy predatory fish... just in case.

This is an aquarium forum and fish keeper without the space is a bad word...

If a fish looks like it is suffering and not going to make it I see nothing wrong with quickly putting it in a paper towel and clubbing it.When they do the seal hunt they determine the most humane way is to club them.
