How fast do Clown Plecos grow?

My clown pleco is a little bit over an inch long. How fast do they normally grow and what is their max size?

Expect your clown pleco to reach between 3.5 - 4 inches in your aquarium, provided adequate room is given.

EDITED - I am glad I caught that error before too many people went around thinking a clown pleco can get 7+ inches! :soda:

They usually reach about 7 inches in captivity, but in the wild they can grow to a foot

Really? i thought they max out around 4 inches in captivity.

I have corrected my first post – that was a definite error on my part. One word makes all the difference in the world (pleco vs. loach).

He/she is in my 10g with the frogs and seems to be doing just fine.

I hope you have plans to upgrade. This fish will need 30-40 gallons as a minimum. They like to roam around, and do get to that 4 inch mark as mentioned.

I suppose I will have to get a larger tank at some point, then. :idea2:

Also, I have a friend with a 50 gallon tank that could probably take him if I didn't have the space for him.

whew I'm glad to hear that the clown pleco reaches up to 4 inches. I was beginning to imagine a beast in my 25 gallon tank! But it would give me an excuse to go bigger wouldn't it?
