Do you just sprinkle it over the water, or place it in a feeding ring, or use a feeding cone? The cone seems to help control wasted food. I'm trying to keep all the fish happy, and yet contain the amount of uneaten food.
I soak the flakes in a cup that is only used for the tanks and the squirt them into the tank with a pipette(a small turkey baster type thing). This way the fish don't have to eat off the surface and gulp air and also the flakes don't expand in their stomachs. This way I can also squirt it in as fast as they eat it. I put in a little bit, wait til they eat that and then put in some more. This way I don't have to worry about scooping out excess food or worry about the food floating off in the current. Also I can squirt food down to the shrimp this way.
aardvark1 - feeding frenzy is right. Happy, happy, happy! But I have another question: About how much food per fish each time, and how many times per day? Ours eat pretty much breakfast, lunch and dinner - and then a midnight snack and there is no food waste at all. Everyone is active and healthy - just wondering if we're giving them enough?
if you feed multiple times..feed them smalller portion..I would not be concerned with the general rule of X# minutes to consume all the food. that is for 1X day or less.
if you feed multiple times I usually only feed what they can consume in a few seconds..making sure all get some food.
in nature fish are opportunistic feeders..generally they cruise around feeding.
i'm a sprinkler - i've seen that goldfish who take pellets from the surface are at an increased risk of bloat type illnesses; does this apply to rift lake cichlids ?
