HOB filter placement?

I have the more powerful one on the far left side and a backup filter in the middle with a powerhead on the far left side.

I like to change it up every now and then anywhere along the back.

If you have two, one on each side. If you have one, close to the center.

If I only use one HOB I also use a power head just below the surface to force some of the filtered water to the other side of the tank. If I have two HOBs I put one at each end with PH's at both sides. But my tanks are 4ft or longer.

:) I guess it is somewhat subjective & would depend on a few things. Small tanks, the middle is best. Larger/longer tanks require more than one. 2 or 3 spaced evenly along the back or one on either side or corner, intake tubes at different lengths, one or 2 for mechanical w/ the other biological ect., ect. I change them up every so often for what few I have. It really depends on tank size for me.

I use HOB's in both rear corners. In my opinion, that keeps from a dead spot. Plus I use filters for larger tanks. What I mean is, the rule of thumb is the filter should "cycle" the tank water 5 times per hour. Using this fomula, for example, a 29 , needs to circulate 145 gallons per hour, so I get filters that are rated at 200 GPH.

Just for giggles, I have a canister (Rena XP3) on my 55. I have the intake at one end, and the spray bar at the center to other end, I feel this keeps the water circulating.
