hermits are house hunters, literally. they'll kill snails and other hermits just because they like their shell better

LOL...its the body....yes, they are soft bodied, hence the need for the shell as bodily protection....
Your right from what i've read.. and aparantly there still crabs just another family or a branch off from the crab.. I always wondered that because I always see 6 legged crabs.. well I read somewhere that there front legs evolved into claws.. so does that mean crabs have 8 legs and claws? or just 8 legs.. I've never gotten any further in my reading..

yup, hermit crabs arnt really crabs, just like horseshoes, and the "unmentionable" ones :uhoh:

well i had to go to a party for my grandmother last night and when i got home he was not in the same spot. so he may have found a shell or died someother place, i will look beter when i get home from work. Is it weird that i found one of my hermits in a shell from one of my fighting conch?
