Help! My tank wont clear up.

I would leave all the filter pads as they are. Leave them alone. You'll need to do water changes in order to get that free swimming bacteria in place. What you are trying to do is have your beneficial bacteria to establish and with the constant or seemingly constant rinsing of them, you keep disrupting the system by putting the pads under the tap, killing what is there and forcing what is in the tank to build more and more. With the new filter in place, it shouldn't need to be cleaned until way after your established. Let it run and do its thing. You'll get there, just be patient

I removed the ammonia pad and will check the water again tomorrow. I ordered fluval ammonia remover granuals that should be coming in a few days so if the ammonia goes up should I just put it in my canister then or just do it when it comes in. I did not have the canister properly latched before putting the water in it again and just had a mini flood in my office! Long day...

Was I reseting the cycleing process everytime I washed the filters? I am going to re check the water now. I cant wait until tomorrow. It will bug me. Its been running about two weeks now.

I will leave everything as is. I did get rid of the ammonia pad and will keep checking the levels. Should I use the ammonia granules when I get them in or wait until I see the levels going up.
