H202 (hydrogen peroxide) Dip Results

After 20 seconds, this is the results after a 20 second dip 48 hours later...
The plant was healthy before the dip..

Any recommendations on how to treat my dying plant?

There was something on another forum about H202 not being tolerated very well by certain plants, cant remember if ehinodorus was one of them but I think it might have been.The best way I found of sorting out an algae problem similar to yours by the look of it was to remove the badly affected leaves and try and sort out the cause which in my case seems to have been caused by a change in the Co 2 levels,I think I am slowly winning the algae is getting less but it is a slow process.

Dip just the plant, not the root.

PS--With good light, just clip that leaf off. My swords grows 2-3 new leafs a week.

Agree. Once i ripped off a bad leaf off a sword, it actually promoted new growth.

And since it doesnt look like your whole plant is in bba i wouldnt worry much. Also dipping the plant every so often doesnt really help the plant. With every time you take it out of the tank it goes into shock. Another way to do the Peroxide treatment is by taking a syringe and spot treating it right in the tank. Do that every day and slowly it should go away.

dont really have to dilute peroxide (unless its not the regular 3%). It breaks down to water so its harmless unlike bleach

That was my thinking, because some pharmacies carry 20/30%.

I only dipped the leaves and not the roots.

Seems like I got a couple strands of this black algae that is starting to grow on my Driftwood now.. I am running a CO2 Yeast system, not sure if that if the reason for my algae problem?.. Also I got a little bit of green spot algae aswell... I'm only doing half recomended dosing for my tank. :wall:

whats your light again??

BBA most of the time occurs when theres not enough co2 to support the light. I had it growing badly on my driftwood before but once diy co2 kicked in, it slowed down. From the wood you can take tweezers and pluck it.
From the plants i would just dip the affected leaves in the h2o2.

I got 65 watts CF on my 29 gallon, the algae is growing at the top part of the wood closest to the surface.. I seem to have a steady flow of CO2 going into my tank, and the lights are on about 10 to 12 hours per day.

I am not going to use H202 again since it melted almost half of my leaves

Rip off the bad leaves and let the plant grow back. For the mean time get a syringe and experiment with direct treatment of the BBA thats on the wood with the h2o2 (3%). Try spot treating with about 3-5mls every day and see how the algae reacts.

h2o2 is aquarium safe, will not harm fish at all.

When was the last time you recharged your diy co2?
