guppy grass

najas guadalupensis --not sure if thats spelled right

it can either float or you can bury pieces of it and it will root.

There are several different species of Najas, all called guppy grass, but guadalupensis is the most common. It's a floating plant similar to hornwort as far as that goes, but will root itself if it comes in contact with the substrate (or sponge prefilters) IME. I have Najas indica in most of my tanks, it grows well enough under medium light.

Also does a nice job of sucking up excess nutrients. Was having some slight algea problems in my low-light tank untill I added some of this. Now I grab a handfull every couple of weeks and rip the mass in half, toss one half back in the tank and throw the other half out or take it to my LFS, they give me a couple bucks in store credit if I bring in a nice big bunch. The fish nibble at it, the guppy feeder fry hide in it, all in all a pretty useful plant.

I use this stuff called Sprite and it does well in keeping my guppies happy. It is easy to grow and it you can float it and plant it. here is a pick
