Can some one please describe the pourpose of ground probes and how I'm to know if I need one.

Ground probes are a fancy sounding tool to poke into your gravel and substrate. I personally perfer to use a finger. We talking about the same product here? It's a little pointy widget to stir your substrate, check for pockets of anerobic bacteria, and debris? You need one if you don't want to get your hand wet, have fish that will eat you, or have such a large tank you can't reach the back corners ever.

I'm short (5'4" if you round up a little) and I can't get my hand all the way to the substrate of my taller tanks without literally getting past my shoulder in the water. I use a chopstick to stir the sand. They're free and they magically appear at your front door if you order Chinese for dinner!

WHAT????

all electronic devices throw off stray electricity...a ground probe in your tank will take that stray electricity, and direct it into your houses grounding system...it's a saftey tool...do you really need it ???...not sure, but you don't many new homes built with lightning rods either

well thats what I figured they were for ELECTRICAL grounding but I wasnt sure wether I realy needed one or not as I have just recently heard of them. but I will need somthing to get into and stir my sand as my tank is a 220g and like 2 1/2 ft deep
