Any suggestions for a good cheap pump to push holding water from the basement holding tank to the aquarium on the main floor?
Can a powerhead be used for this purpose?

It's for a 90 gallon and would be used for 50% water changes biweekly or so.

Thanks,

A pump for your situation would need to be around 2000 gph, as lots of GPH would be lost due to all the head pressure of pushing water 15 feet up. A powerhead wouldnt work very well for this purpose.

Truthfully, you should be expecting to pay around 100 dollars for a pump strong enough.

ViaAqua pumps are inexpensive and could do the job. The two I have shot water from the floor to the ceiling when a plastic clamp failed. Drsfosterandsmith.com is where I got mine from.

Nolapete,
Now that's a product indorsement like I've never read before.

Jehrbear,
You could also push the water in two stages. Have one pump in the holding tank, and another near the ceiling, or on the floor above. It adds more potential for breakdowns (more moving parts) but could save you some by getting smaller pumps.

LOL, it was quite a wet experience. I wouldn't suggest it. They do have good output strength for the price was my point.

my water fill tubing isnt fully connected yet, so while doing a WC a couple of times, the darn tubing came shooting out of the tank, spraying water in every which direction all over my living room.

that sucked, the cat was mad at me, the wife was mad at me, and the child thought it was freakin hilarious, and that we should play in it as it was flailing around.

Dark... My son would laugh and say, Can we do that again?

If its just for water changes would a sump pump work? I used one when I set up my 37g and needed to drain in and refill it and drain it and refill it and drain it and refill it and drain it and refill it... why I had to is another story for another thread...
