:swear: ok i think we all hav to add pressure to stop the sale of fish bowls and videos of goldfish in bowls

just yesterday a woman who owns a small less than a gallon bowl told me that she wants to get a goldfish for her bowl
as im a fishkeeper i replied "no goldfish should never be kept in bowls"
she then said" i thought goldfish where meant to be kept in bowls"

she then kept on telling me she wants a goldfish but doesnt want a filter and pump so shell have it in a bowl

aggresively i told her"if you want to keep a goldfish you need an aquarium thats more than 10 gallons' and she then accepted it

realistically.... if she wants a goldfish.. shes gonna need an aquarium of at least 75 gallons.. lol

try telling her THAT

Small steps, goldfish lovers, small steps. At least something with a filter is better than something without. I guess it's the responsibility of fishkeepers in general to gently convince people of the right way to go.

sounds like my neighbor who had two goldies in a 5 gallon. i kept telling her i would give her, free, one of my 10 gallons and AC filters so that the fish would at least have more room and have decent filtration (she currently has a lil hob that takes cartridges of filter floss only). repeatedly she has declined my offer and now she is wondering why one of the fish died......

yesterday she said she was going to get another fish because the one left was 'lonely', but i very firmly told her to not get any more until she gets a bigger tank. lets hope she listened!

I get folks ALL the time wanting to keep "Nemo" in a betta bowl!! WTF!!??

I still think we should write letters to sesame street about Elmo's Dorothy fish. Anyhow, there is a restaruant that I go to frequently and they had a new 55 and had put in 9 comets. The lady told me she was going to get more and I explained to her that they would get very big and messy and that she shouldn't. Well, now they are already huge and I see less and less every week so I can imagine they are dying off. I do remind her son ever time I'm there to keep doing water changes. Not much else I can do.

i agree with you reframer and we all need to sign it showing our disatisfaction to that and the name "goldfish bowl" also gives false ideas to newbies

Overcoming ignorance through education is a long lasting fight. It doesn't happen overnight. It may appear to fall on deaf ears but if enough people are saying the same thing, things just might change.

It usually take generations to effect a change unfortunately. Always try to educate rather than argue but make sure you have your facts straight before you do.

Yaay, Excuzzzeme! Never can win 'em over when you're indignant.

i still thonk pet stores should have a 'chart' that shows how big fish can get. it should have a ruler type thing and for each inch mark there should be a list of fish that would get that big. that way people can actually see how big it will be.
