I can't remember right now the name of that plant that had this awesome root-

it looked like a giant version of a pointy cabbage- had some color to the roots for some of the plants as well it was large and couldn't even remember! I'm in the middle of setting up a fish tank and there will be moving spots so it'll be near impossible to have a planted tank but having floating plants would be awesome as the fish in it will love the shade from the light anyways I might be able to anchor java ferns-

any other suggestions other than that plant that had a cool feathery root type that grew very deep. I will be also doing some duckweed as I always do that in my tanks anyways for quality of the water.

was it red root floater?

Maybe water lettuce?

If you might be able to hang your lighting above the tank, or lower the water, a riparium setup could be a good option.

interesting notation. maybe I should look into this. I do have light over the 55g tank but it's on bracket so its kinda like 3 in above the tank level? would that be a possiblity?
