I'm thinking about adding a small tank (5 gallon) in our bedroom. I'll be able to seed it in a few weeks as my 55 is nearly done cycling. Any suggestions for inhabitants. Not interested in a Betta or shrimp. I understand my choices are going to be pretty limited but any suggestions would be great.

I had neon tetras and guppies in my 5 but when I moved them to the 10 you could see how much happier they were.

Black gravel and 5 - 10 cardinal or neon tetras.

If you need a bit of a night light, and are a DIY handy person, add some UV LEDs running off a wall wart to the hood, and add 3 - 5 glo-fish danios.

I really wouldn't put glo-fish in a 5g. Danio's are really active and need more space. You could do a nano fish tank with microrasboras, Boraras sp., or ember tetras. I have personal experience with Boraras naevus, and you could keep 8-10 of these tiny fish in a 5 gallon. Each fish is about .8" and they are great fun to watch.

I had 2 guppies, 3 neon tetras, and 1 zebra danio in my 5g at fist. The danio was aggressive, so he got moved to a neighbors 5g (only fish in that tank) and he still seems like he needs more room. So I was left with 3 neons and 2 guppies. The guppies loved being moved to the 10g, the neons seem about the same, but when they get more friends in a week or two they will probably seem more happy. You probably could do 3-5 neon tetras in there, but they would be better off in a bigger tank. I would try some of the nano fish people are talking about. They sound really cool.
