Fish for 2.5 Gallon?

Heterandria formosa, very tiny livebearers.
plus they don't even really need a heater, which is good cause then it wouldn't be taking up even more room inside the tank.
The only trouble is finding them, they are not usually in stores, but if you have a local aquarium society there is likely somebody who breeds them.

Stick with the betta. In fact I am hard pressed to thnk of any other fish I would keep in there with the betta except maybe an oto if there is a goodly amount of algae present.

an otto would be very unhappy, they should be kept in groups,I wouldnt keep one(alone)in less than a five gal....stick with the betta or a ADF...maybe some ghost shrimp.what kind of filter do you have??

2-3 endlers (just be sure to get same sex, or the will breed like crazy) would actually do fine in a 2.5G. or else just get a betta for it or use it as a planted tank with some shrimps, or use as an ADF tank.

Ugh... I feel so newbie-ish! What's an ADF? This thread intrigues me because we just got 2 2 gallon aquariums for my husband and son's classrooms. They're both far from water sources so we wanted something small to make the weekly water changes easier (a decision I'm starting to regret). We were thinking Bettas, but then they shouldn't be left in cold water, right? So then thought white clouds but the ones we had in our 15gallon were super active and we thought the tight space might not be fair. Is it possible to get submersible heat for a tank this size and keep a betta? Maybe we should just go with shrimp? They're fishless cycling (SLLOOOOWWWLLLY) now and stuck at the nitrite phase. We're getting nitrates but still can't get nitrites to 0.

i have some endlers , they are super cute, and a bit smaller than guppies, the males have nice colors. Also dont give up on bettas, even if you dont like normal ones you could go for getting a halfmoon or crowntail. I had a dwarf puffer in a 2g he was so cute in there, with some shrimps.
