Fish compatibility

Oh, you posted pics of multicolored small (?) gravel. I didn't see anything like sand...but either kind, it's a matter of cleanliness more than sharpness. Even with plants you can vacuum down a bit, say 1/4 inch (or cm if that's your preferred measurement).

Pygmy corys are not totally bottom fish. They like to swim in the water column often. Just something to consider.

You need to practice vacuuming w/small substrate. It takes a while to be able to do it well. Short, quick shallow down & up movements works for me. If you do suck up some substrate you can rinse it & return it to your tank. You can do it if I can!

no, that was a tank in a LFS. This is my tank in its early days, but that is the gravel I have now.

should I vacuum even if I have plants?

Your substrate from that other thread seems pretty shallow, if that's still what you have from a year ago. I might not try to vacuum if it's less than 2 inches. How are your plants doing now?

I do a kind of swirl over the substrate surface with the vacuum to remove any poo or detritus.

this is how the tank looks now. the saggitaria has spread but i'm still unable to get it to fully carpet. I added that moss left side, added some river stones, got some plants in the back that have no idea what they are called, behind the stones I got a swordplant that isnt doing good but it's not doing bad either and some water wisteria

I've been looking for more substrate that I bought but I'm unable to get them either locally or online.

I do swirl to stir up the mulm and vacuum it

The Sagittaria seems to be doing well even if it’s not fully carpeting yet.
