First Post!! CICHLIDS IN 55 GALLON Sorry for all the photos!!!

They hiring where you work? sounds like your boss is much more flexible.

There's no need to be rude. I bartend so a fish at work wouldn't make much sense.....

It's always better to ask permission than risk lose your job over a fish, plus it's just respectful.

Well, I for one like the tank and cannot wait to see the fish in their 125gal tank! Those pics are better then anything I can take lol.

As for the betta bowl. IMO, you should get a small 5gal tank, even if you have to bring the fish home to do so. Betta are possibly the must under-cared for fish that aren't in the carp family (goldfish). They often end up in little tanks and get few water changes, which is pretty much a death sentence. So long as you stay on top of WCs (once a day, at least) for the betta it would be okay in that little bowel, but it should be in a larger tank then that. And one with a real filter, that would really help the betta.

Fuzzy, I know you said you traded off or got rid of your syno's.... would you happen to know what kind they were? I have a couple that are exactly the same but can't quite find the right type they are... other than Syno's...

not usually recommended to mix SA/CA cichlids and African cichlids...

I know its not recomended. My parms are fine for both, and I have zero Aggression problems with my Jacks. Love them as well as the Cichlids so they will remain in the same tank for now. My 55 gal will be empty in a week if I decide to move them over, but that's probably not going to happen

Aggression issues don't usually ramp up till the fish reach sexual maturity and start pairing off and claiming territories.

Your idea of mixing incompatible species really isn't anything new or cutting edge, most new fishkeepers do it until they learn better.

Nice looking fish though I agree with not mixing the africans and american cichlids. It's more than water parameter differences, it's differences in dietary needs and body language. Would hate to see any of your beautiful fish get torn up in a dispute (the EBJD in particular, he's pretty wimpy to be in with that group of fish). Also, most mbuna should not have bloodworms and other high protein foods in their diet as it can contribute to the often deadly malawi bloat. Best to feed them a high veggie diet. The JD on the other hand would do well with bloodworms.
