I just setup my new Eheim 2213 Cannister filter. It's a bit noisier then I though it would be. I'm pretty sure I got most of the air out, but it still has a humm that you can hear from my desk next to it. Is there any way to make it more quite?

Also, the spray bar is quite powerful in my 20g High. It's enough to make all the plants that come to the top of the water move across the tank lol. I'm not sure how to arrange it to tone it down a bit :)

By the way, I had a foam cover over the intake on my HOB. Should I put some foam over the intake of the Eheim?

Try turning the filter off for about 5-10 minutes. You can diffuse the return any way that works for you as long as you dont impede the outflow from the canister.

i dont think theres any need to turn it off

this noise is common on start up ( i have 3 eheims )

is the filter new and unused?

if its new, it will be air trapped in the media causing it, give it a little shake every now and then and it will disappear after a couple of days

point the output of the spray bar differently if you want, for example at a 30 ro 45 degree angle facinge a wall of the tank

what kind of hum???

I have 2 of these, and although they havent been used extensivly yet, I have run them for periods of time, and they are DEAD silent.

My Eheim is silent too. So silent that I have to put my hand on the canister to feel if it is running. I rinsed out the filter media before running it for the first time. maybe the whole "give it a shake" will help.
