Well, as you may know, 2 days ago when Pimafix was killing all of my Pencilfish, I moved them into a different tank, and that caused a lot of fish to switch.

The Bolivian Ram was temporarily put inside my 20 Long with my Krib. In the 2 hours he was in there, the Krib terrorized him. I didn't witness it but when I went to check up on him, he was stuck on the filter intake breathing hard.

I quickly moved him back to my 55 gallon and rested him on a plant. He regrouped and started swimming normally.

Fast forward: 2 days later: I am looking at him now and have noticed half of his tail fin gone.

Could this be a huge nip from my Krib 2 days earlier, or is this fin rot? Would fin rot show up so fast?

I honestly don't think its fin rot, but I'm just making sure.

Here are some pictures of his condition:

Sorry on my viewer the pictures are dark. Is the edge where the fin is missing just gone or lined in black? Just going by what I remember of fin rot on betta fins, if it's black it's fin rot.

Hope somebody else will chime in for you.

Nope not black at all. Its a little tiny bit white, but then again, so is the fin :duh:

Also I'm using Pimafix for a mouth fungus problem I'm also having in that tank. I dunno if it will help cure nips and fin rot because it doesnt say like Melafix does.

Btw, mouth fungus was the root to all my problems:
Excellent Water Quality somehow=Mouth Fungus=Pimafix=Kills Pencilfish=Move Pencilfish=Move Bolivian=Bolivan beat up by Krib=Fin nipped/rot

That's definitely a bite or a cut, not fin rot.

It's too straight to be fin rot. It'll grow back.

Thanks sooo much! Thats great news :D
I was so worried because I spent my last bit of money on the Pimafix and my parents wouldnt give me any more. I don't know what I'd do if it was Fin Rot.

Now I'll have $20 saved up from lunch money by the end of the week, and wont have to spend it on meds :D .. Starving myself for fish.. Man I'm loving this hobby!

Ha prime i know exactly how you feel, im working with my first "on my own" convict tank, and i have been starving myself just to save up moeny to buy the fish the things they need. :)

And that doesnt look like fin rot to me, i have had a few plattys who have had fin rot,and the rot never looks so "clean cut" like that, pretty sure its a cut or bite.

Thanks! Its so hard taking care of aquariums yourself. I don't even work yet, and I already have
-1 55 gallon
-1 20 gallon
-1 10 gallon
-1 5 gallon
-1 2 gallon

LOL!!
I just rely on my $5 a day lunch money to get through it :D
