I decided to write up an article on how to feed your fish. Now I know most of you are probably like " wtf I know how to feed my fish" but for the few that don't here we go...

NOTE the following:

- this is just my 2 cents everyone is different I'm not saying my way is correct or your feeding is incorrect

- My tank needs a good trim and yes I know I have holy plants thank you lol

First off it is very important to get a selection of food. And I mean selection like the picture.

That is what I feed my fish on a daily basis along with a few odds and ends I'll get into later on. Personally I like Omega One, Hikari, & Dainichi so moving on. I feed my fish 3-4 times a day (I know I know but hear me out) I (me) personally have noticed my fish are much more colorful and less aggressive towards one another. So I've read in various magazines and talked with various people that say "Feed what they eat in 5 mins" or "Feed just a pinch" ok first off define a pinch please? I see this as the first problem to over feeding. Forget pinch it is worthless try something like this. I take a quarter size of flake and cut it into 4th then I take 1 4th of that and cut it inhalf. That's how much I use. Now if you don't want to do that then heres a reference pic for a "pinch" in my eyes

this picture below is a "pinch" according to my mother

So grab your "pinch" and put it into the top of the container like so

now I crumble the food inbetween my fingers over the tank

note how small the flakes are (you can barely even see them) so I repeat that on the other flake food I feed. Again I feed very sparingly because I feed 5 different kinds of food. Next is either Micro Wafers or Dainichi. Now these aren't flakes so its kinda hard to exactly "crumble" them up but I take again very very little.

and feed it in 1/4 drops over a span of about 2 mins so everyone can eat whats being dropped.

Now you'll notice that not every single pellet gets eaten but thats fine cause after I drop it down they hunt and get the left overs

finally before the light gets shut off I drop in 2 wafers for the bottom feeders and other fish that like to peck at them

Now for other things I feed my fish I feed them the following

Cucumber
Zucchini
Baby
Potatoes
and the best thing literally since sliced bread...FRENCH CUT GREEN BEANS!

Welp that's all I really gotta say about feeding I hope someone learned something from this. I don't endorse any brand I feed I simply feed what I see results with. Everyones different I'm sure there is better food out there .

very nice!

I suggest a clarification: you have a lot of schooling fish, someone with a smaller school is going to need to feed less, or if they have more bottom feeders more of that... etc.

If you submit it for the article section, i suggest you expand on different types of eaters- omni, carni, herbi and on the veggies, etc

Wonderful article though!! I love the pics. I liked to see someone else's def. of a 'pinch'

I feed live and frozen foods but a good article

HAH!

you might want to change that..

Unless, of course, you are in fact, feeding babies to your fish.

LMAO!!!!

why yes I am thats a hidden treat for some fish!

thank you guys I plan on expanding the article with some more pics and more information on types of fish..and from feeding flake to froze and everything in between.

For frozen brineshrimp and bloodworms I put them into a small container with a dab of water and store it in my fridge. When they thaw I use an eye dropper to give a precise amount. I do tear drops in the morning and then give the rest out at night. It's very useful!

I may start doing very small feedings three times a day like you suggest to see what happens.

Thanks for the post! I was wondering if I was doing the right thing. People at my lfs say to only feed 2 times a week! But my angels beg for food everyday, so I started feeding them about 2 times a day but small portions, I watch as they eat the food and when it they are done with a little portion, i drop my next little portion, until all are gone. I think it keeps everyone happier that way. I only feed once a day to my plecos though because I have to wait till night time.

After reading your post, I feel better about my routine. :) Thanks!
