There are different types of protein..
Totally agree that the protein composition could be different.

Now going back many years while I was in high school I remember that we humans need meaty food since it has at least 22 types of protein which we our body needs. If we humans ate vegetables only, then we need to eat a large variety of different vegetables since a single vegetable don't all have the 22 types of protein.

Applying the same logic, then might be able to get away feeding goldfish food as long ad there's a variety of food fed in a week.

When I sold off my Goldfish, I had a new box of goldfish wafers. I mixed them with the tropical flakes and fed normally to the others. They ate it fine, no ill affects.

Goldfish food, having higher protein, can cause bloat is some species of fish. Some Malawi Cichlids are especially prone to having it occur. If this would be temporary to use up stock, I would mix it with tropical flake at a 2-1 ratio (2 parts tropical to 1 part GF).

I'm quite surprised with your comment tanker? If you see the ingredients typical analysis that I when I started the thread, you would not have noted that all the goldfish branded food are at least 5% higher in protein than the tropical fish food.:headshake2:
I am standing in a store looking at goldfish food and tropical flakes. The goldfish food has 4% LESS protein than the tropical food.

Before anyone thinks anything, NO, I've not been feeding my tropical fishes any goldfish food.

However, I do want to gauge your comments. I lost an oranda bout 2 months ago and have since change the aquarium to a tropical one. I've got all these goldfish food and flake lying about so I thought, hey maybe I can use them to feed my tropical fishes.

Now, any difference? Well I don't see much difference between tropical fish food and goldfish food. So any objection say if I fed my tropical fishes with TetraFin Gold Japan which is a premium goldfish sinking pellet? Would be good to know your thoughts?
In general, foods for goldfish and tropical fish have similar ingredients, but for tropical fish it is important to have food with a higher content of plant components. If your fish eat TetraFin Gold Japan well, this shouldn't be a problem, but give preference to food that is specifically formulated for tropical fish.

Just curious I feed my danios aqua care flakes with mealworms( it’s for goldfish but what I got recommended for them) could I feed these to fish like swordtails or a dwarf cichlid or should I buy different food for them?

Goldfish foods usually have less protein but not as much as I prefer to feed my tropical fish. It's not that you can't feed GF food sometimes but it's not as good for your other fish long term. Their "filler" (corn, soy, wheat, etc) ingredients are not what most tropical fish can digest & thrive on. Just buy better foods. Read the ingredients, the list is by what is most prevalent. So, look for fish-type stuff like salmon, shrimp etc., & maybe some veggies for the first 3 ingredients.

I'm not a fan of mealworms & hate tubifex in any form. Mealworms have a very tough outer chitin layer that many fish cannot digest well. Tubifex are "sewer" worms; they thrive in nasty sludge, EWW! I don't like them in any form or almost any freeze dried foods, even 1s that should be good for our fish like FD blackworms. Just my personal experiences. FD foods can crumble into dust & need to be rehydrated for too long for me.

I will have to look up "aqua care flakes" later...I'm skeptical just by the name.
