feeding plecos fruit or veg!!

:help:i have recently discovered that plecos like to eat fruit and veg.

i have put some in the tank on a clip, but they do not seem to even noicie it is there.

is this because they are not used to it or do i need to use certain fruit or veg?

i have a 50 gallon tank with 2 plecos, 2 angel fish, 1 siamise, 7 tetra, 5 guppies and 2 mollies

What are you feeding?

Down low in the tank, left overnight?

hello there, i have clipped a slice of apple to the mushroom at the bottom of the tank, close to where they seem to be hanging out at the moment.

thanks for the advise i will try tonight. i've got apple or potato for now which is best?

I discovered last month, thanks to this site, that they love fresh fruit and veggies. The first few times I stuck zucchini in there, he wouldn't go near it. Now a month later, he eats everything, or at least tries it, and he will wait in the "spot" until I put something there. Right now he's eating squash:

Foods he's liked, all raw: zucchini, canteloupe, cucumber, peeled grapes, mushrooms, yellow squash and mango.

You could try rubbing some garlic on the food or you can also buy a great product at most LFS called Garlic Guard. Its by Seachem, the makers of Prime, Stability, etc. I use it and I just dip my finger in the bottle and then rub it on the food (usually zucchini), let it soak in, and then put it in the tank. My pleco comes out and eats it like instantly. Works amazing!

while potato and apple will not hurt your fish, both of those have easily accessible sugars/starches which bacteria love. leave them in too long, even overnight and you're asking for cloudy water from a bacterial bloom. green veggies like zucchini, spinach, peas, green beans, etc. have more nutritional value and won't cloud your water unless you leave them in there for a couple days - which is too long anyway.
