I have an open 10 gallon that I want to make into a dwarf puffer tank. I know nothing about them besides that they need brakish water. Now i have a couple question.
1. Is 10 gallons big enough?
2. How do i make the water brakish and how can i fishless cycle it?
3. What other fish can I have in the tank with them. (Catfish or something to clean the tank) I was thinking bumblbee gobies but i dont no if they are much of a clean up crew.

I love and breed dwarf puffers so I will help as much as I can
First dwarf puffers are NOT brackish fish, they are true freshwater puffers.
A ten gallon tank properly arranged can house 3 DPs comfortably. But it would be best to have 1 male and 2 females. All fish have their own personalities so I can't tell you how aggressive yours will be but mine are sweet. You can keep them with any fish that can't eat them and won't harass them.

Bumble bee gobies are brakish water fish. If you wan't a clean up crew get some ghost shrimp, oto cats and cory cats. I keep mine with black neon tetras and ghost shrimp.

had to post on this one *I LOVE PUFFERS* DP are NOT NOT NOT BW fish, I killed mine not knowing this and trusting the petsmart worker :mad2: 10G should be fine but since it is a puffer make sure he eats snails (really tiny ones) to keep their teeth from getting too big. Plus i think all puffers are fin nippers so keep that in mind as well for when you stock. Enjoy you puffer.

Actually SHK_ATK, DPs are the only puffer that do not need to keep their teeth trimmed. There is no documented information that DPs have ever had a problem with over grown teeth in the home aquarium. They do like snails bit you will find they eat the snails out of the shell before the crunch the shell.

Okay so DP's are freshwater so i can just set it up like a normal freshwater tank nothing special?

As long as your tap water is with in reasonable range for a community tank you will be fine. My tap water is PH6.6, KH30ppm, GH40ppm.
I also inject co2 so my ph is more like 6.0. As long as you don't have PH 5.0 or 8.0 they will do fine. Don't try to add PH up or down to alter the water. Just acclimate the fish to your water and leave it alone.

You don't have to feed them snails, but they love them. Plus snails are a part of their natural diet so you may want to consider that. Snails will also do your clean up. You can just set your tank up like a normal freshwater. Some people like to add 1 teaspoon per gallon aquarium salt to the tank, but this is not needed. Just make sure that the tank is fully cycled before you add the DP as they do not tolerate ammonia and nitrite spikes, because they are scaleless fish. Have fun with your DP. They are so fun to watch, and have great personality!
