driftwood - alternative to boiling?

do you have a grill????if so you could try boiling it over the grill. just how cold is it that you cant freeze water???

Wow, thanks for all the great responses. I've been soaking it in a bucket after trying to boil it, and it really isn't leaching much anymore. I want to boil to sterilize, just in case. I think I might run it through the dishwasher as Rich suggested.

I boiled mine for over 8 hours and there was a slight scent in the house but it was gone in a hour or 2. I don't recommend baking the wood being that I am a Firefighter and I don't recommend baking wood... very high fire hazzard.

I put mine in a large bin with a lid.... ran hot super hot water in, sunk it and put the lid on. I did that for a week. ( once a day) worked well. but my tank still turned color. but I did not mind just did water changes as normal.

How I got my driftwood to sink if it was dry or to take out most of the tannins is I just grabbed a 5 gallon bucket, went to the bathtub, turned the water as hot as it could get, filled up the bucket, and soaked the driftwood in for about a week, dumping out the water every morning.
