not to many people have been talking of these fish,so I dont know if mine is behaving normal. The rate of growth, appetite, bahavior???Im the only person I know that has one,if one of you guys has one, tell me about it.Would be neat to compare fish, you know.Hope IM not the only one that lives with an aquatic antichrist, anything and everything I put with him he kills. His blue fins light rite up,copper in the gill plate, teeth!!!!!He is ..the devils reject.Sleeps during the day, really active at night, digging ,aswell as tree removal.Very smart fish,I think he knows whats going on ...............hes looking at me.......

Dovii (Wold Cichlid) closely related to and known to spawn with Jaguar Cichlids. I personally don't have a Dovii, but I use to have one years ago that killed off 3 Oscars, and 2 Texas Cichlids. Definitely one of the true mean beastly Cichlids out there. Known to get 30" and kill anything in it's path, takes no prisoners, leaves no witness'. I however do have a 3" Jaguar Cichlid in a 55g tank with FireMouths, my Jaguar is more active at night also, he hides during the daytime, and harass' my FireMouths at night.

My girl, Pandora, is about 5-6 inches now and is still in hiding mode. She recently started digging up the entire tank while we were on vacation and has since stopped when we returned. She's very secretive and I have to make sure her food makes it underneath her log where he hideout is. She still wigs out if I catch her out and about and will run away and hide. If she's anything like my jags, she will start coming out when she gets another inch on her or so. Pandora likes to kill in the night. She's very secretive about her murderous ways. ;) She tried to kill my lima shovelnose and ended up killing a small albino plec. She got no more playmates after those two. She also likes to come up and 'pop' the water. I hear her in her room all the time.
I also have another 3-4 incher at my store. "He" likes to hide face down behind the plants like he is just another stem on them. He hasn't killed anyone, but had just started to work on a blue gourami before I confined him to his own tank.
I love how they hide behind things and just peek out at you with those eyes. And I love how their psuedocanines come in so early.

My dovii is only around 5" but he also is quite shy. Constantly hiding and very skittish. The only thing I've been able to keep with him so far is a TSN and thats only because the TSN knows not to come into his territory. Post some pics of the dovii you have.

Here is mine:

i just arbitrarily assign genders to baby fish to satisfy my personal need for naming them. my goldfish, Wilbur, i had him for 5 years and discovered he was a she after the first.. but still called him Wilbur.. and still call him a him.

How am I kidding myself? I know how big they get, it's still a youngen and it's starting to show it's male traits. Tell me why I should trust you? I have no idea who you are, I trust the members I know that have background with these fish. ;)

hi,mate just telling u after 10yrs of owning several dovii and recently having gone through the whole sexing thing, its a girl.u dont have 2 trust me but im just being honest.notice theres a lack of small black spots running horizontally along its entire back length at the very top?also a male at that size would have lil black spots at the lower part of the head just in front of the gill rakers.u just sound so convinced i dont want u to feel let down.it is a great fish.im a long time member of many forums and have studied dovii for a long time.i currently have a 9 inch male which is an awesome fish.try venting urs its big enough.cheers.

Okay....let's all appreciate a great fish...and leave the small details....thanks.

Hey, sorry if it sounded like I was bashing you because I certainly wasn't. I'm just used to people giving their two cents when they really don't know what they are talking about and on top of it all I was probably having one of those days.

This Dovii is weird.. It seems to have traits of both sexes. It has spotting below the line, brownish bronze spotting above the line and a blue face (flash drowns it out). While it's thick like a female and it's growth has slowed down considerably around 6" kinda like a female. I was told by several other forums (even members that breed them and collect them in the wild) that it was in fact a male and I believed them but after I vented it I was told it's a female so that is what I'm going with as of now. Which is fine because I actually picked up a 4" male so I'm hoping they will eventually pair off.

Anyway, I apologize that I came across kinda harsh and thanks for your comments.
