hey guys!!!
im gonna upgrade to a 20 gallon high tank and i wanted save money and make a DIY canister filter.

any ideas out there??? has to be:
CHEAP
RELIABLE
EASY TO MAKE/MAINTAIN.

what i need to know is the material needed, GPH pump, Container size, and media.

Thanks!!!

buy one....easier, cheaper, and then you don't have to worry about it. if your going to make one, your best bet is to just go wet dry, it tends to be a lot easier.

There have been several attempts at a DIY canister filter, with ony a few success stories.
And in the end there was not a lot of money saved..

Since you're only running a 20 gal tall, Why not just use a HOB (hang On Back) filter?
they are much cheaper.

Canisters are great for bigger tanks but kinda overkill for a 20, imo. I use a Penguin 200 on my 20 gallon and it's quiet, trouble-free and keeps the water crystal clear, but any more water current than that could possibly be too much for the type of fish you want to keep.
