DIY 10 gallon aquarium stand?

Don't use pressure treated wood to build your stand out of.. use the regular white pine studs for indoor building. it is treated by pressurizing it in a boiling vat of preserving chemicals to prevent it from rotting. Used for outdoor applications. Easy to get confused if you are unaware of it.

pressure treated is ( or used to be?) poisonous.

Its also important that you make good cuts when you build any type of stand. I could use 4x4's for a 10 gallon stand and make it tip if i was trying. The cuts, design, and angles matter a lot too.

A single 2x4 can hold 600+ lbs, but the number greatly decreases when you apply pressure at an angle. So your verticla support beams need to be perpendicular to the floor and the the tank needs to be level. If not, you will have a wobly stand than can tip.

If you have a table saw, it really helps in making stands, canopies, etc. The rip fence makes it easy to cut a certain length and you just slide the wood through.

The next best tool would be a circular saw followed by a saber saw or chisel. Then there is ofcourse the old fashioned way. You might have to use multiple methods as well. I had to use a circular saw because I bought a 4'x8' peice of plywood. I'm not sure how a single person could cut that on a table saw.
