:dance2: i know some of you guys say that feeding live food is bad and some say that feeding live food is good because its a treat. my questiouns are.....
1*if i were going to feed an oscar live food what would be the healthiest food to feed it?
2*are crickets cray fish and earth worms healtier/safer for an oscar (instead of feeder fish)
3*how large would an oscar have to be before someone could feed it cray fish?
4*are store purchased blood worms healthy for an oscar.

AND :) if cray fish are good is there a place online where i could buy them because i dont have any creeks around here and my LFS only sells those fancy blue ones and those are like $17.50 each........
thanks so much :thm:

You should never feed a fish live food all the time. oscars arnt canivores, but id go with earthworms, and crickets.-I used to feed mine bugs around the house also but i dont think thats health realy.

2*are crickets cray fish and earth worms healtier/safer for an oscar (instead of feeder fish) Id say yes because commets can carry diseaes like ick, fin rot, etc. crickets and worms dont. worms are pretty fattening to

3*how large would an oscar have to be before someone could feed it cray fish? I wouldnt recomend that but im sure a 5in one could handle it. remember a crawdad can tear up somthing if it grabes it, ever been pinched! they also make a mess to

I dont know about "store" i get mine at the fish store, blood worms are blood worms. those little worms will get under your gravel and raise the ph of your aquarium so be careful!

hope this helps!

I feed my 9 inch oscar earthworms, crickets, lizards(his favorite). I get a tub of earthworms once a month or so and it lasts for 2/3 weeks in the fridge. I feed mine Spectrum pellets every other day and worm/cricket/lizard once or twice a week when I have them. Its hard to find/catch lizards though, I come accross them every now and then.

I used LFS feeders before I heard they were bad, but I never had any problems with them.

I used to feed it bloodworms when it was smaller and I would put it in a regular fishbowl full of tank water for 30 minutes or so with the worms so they wouldnt get under my gravel.

Ive never tried crayfish before, seems too expensive....but it would be entertaining maybe. After eating a lizard or cricket the bones/shell end up
on the sand and need to be removed so Im guessing the same would happen to a crayfish.

Oscars are actually carnavors or more specifically: insectavores and piscavores that means they eat bugs and fish, in the wild thats all they eat and the big ones will ocasionally grab a frog or a lizard. when hav u ever seen an oscar chowing down on a live plant or a piece of lettace? in short. they eat other living things. feed live once or twice a week as a treat and stick with a premium fish food like Hikari Gold. oh by the way insects are packed full of nutrition espesually night crawlers and meal worms. bugs u catch outside are very benefical too. just no black widows :D

I just fed my 100 gal tank wich includes a 13"oscar a bunch of home bred convict fry.Man, everyone in there enjoyed their feast!

i know its not a vegetable but i have seen oscars eat fruits, but i read that i should feed live food but all the fish at my fish store are all kinda crappy and look like they are full of nastiness. would it be o.k if i just fed him bugs and pellets and just leave the fish out? will that be healthy?
what kind of lizards do you feed your "baby" because the ones over here have "little man syndrom" and i think they might hurt the oscars before the oscars get to em'. how long are the lizards?
if i feed the oscar live foods do i still need to feed him a crazy amount of fish food? or will one be ok?

I never have seen an oscar chew down a plant, but i could have sworn i seen somwhere that they were not carnivorice, but i guess i should have went with what i know. :thud: they do eat pellets though!
your baby oscar probably cant handle a lizard yet they are realy rough. it seemed like my little oscars always grew realy well with flies and mothes. just turn on your porch light and run out / a fly swatter!. just use your judgement to how much to feed him, i feed my fish alot, try three times a day with difrent foods each time! :hi:
