I have done some readying on the internet and found that some sites say that you can have certian cichlids with semi-aggressive fish, is that true?

it really depends on the mix.. some cichlids are very aggressive and will even eat smaller semi -aggressive fish.

Cichlid covers a huge variety of fish..their geopgraphic regions include Central and south America, and Africa.....

which Cichlid did you have in mind?

i would say in general, american cichlids are easier to mix with tropical fish than africans.. but in any case you should always be careful.

I did not have any specific cichlids in mind, does anyone have any suggestions? I have a 70 gallon tank with 4 tiger barbs, 4 rosey bards, 2 silver dollars, 1 peacock eel, 1 dinosaur bichur (sp?), 1 brown african knife, 1 tin foil barb, 1 red fined shark, and one silver shark.

I would not any cichlids to that mix.
tin foils get pretty big as do silver dollars.'
tiger barbs should probably have a bit more company tho

i agree with star-rider. if i had your tank, i would probably get rid of the tinfoil barb as they can get very large, over a foot long, and add more silver dollars (4 or so) and more tiger barbs (6-7). both groups will exhibit more natural behaviors if their numbers are increased. exactly what kind of fish is the 'silver shark'?

yeah with that size tank you're already fully stocked, if not overstocked. the silver dollars get huge, the tinfoils get huge, the dinosaur bichir gets huge, the peacock eel gets biggish. the brown knife gets big, and i dont know what a silver shark is.. but if it's a columbian shark/catfish then it gets big too.

as it is now, your barbs will probably eventually all get eaten. the peacock eel will probably get badgered and then eaten. eventually you'll be left with 2 silver dollars, a tin foil barb and a bichir. when that happens, i'd upgrade to about a 200 gallon aquarium so you can fill out the schoolsof silver dollars and tin foil barbs, and then you could probably put some large cichlids in the tank as well.. as long as they're not overly agressive, and there's lots of large hiding spots.

If I remeber correctly the shark is a silver tiped shark, it looks kind of like a catfish. That one I purchased about 2 months ago and it have more than doubled it size since I got it! He is generally pretty active, actually very interesting to watch.

Do you recomend any other types of fish to add to the mix, possibly some with a little more color?
