Celestial Pearl Danios and Cherry shrimp

BallAquatics, I sent you a PM. I am a little nervous about putting CPD's in the tank after what you said about them and cherry shrimp. Cherry shrimp are the main part of the tank and I don't want to put anything in there that will seriously endanger them. How serious would the impact be on the population of cherry shrimp and would they impact the behavior of the cherry shrimp so that they won't be out as much as well?

Is the shrimp population well established? Are there plants/decor that shrimp can hide in? If so, nothing to worry about. Even in my 55 where I've taken almost all of the shrimp out (probably less than 50 left in there) I have found juvies hanging out inside the driftwood, in shells, in moss, in other plants, and under rocks. And they're actively hunted by 3 cichlids that, even at their young ages, are far larger and aggressive than CPDs are likely to be. Granted, CPDs are smaller and can get places my cichlid can't, however, don't forget the evasive abilities of shrimp. They're fecund little animals, and they live surrounded by predators in the wild.

When I added CPD's to my small tank, like the one you mention, the CPD's would eat every baby shrimp they could find and catch. They had virtually no effect on the juvenile and adult shrimp. If your main concern is for the shrimp, I wouldn't keep fish in their tank.
