i think i am right to say that the Cardinal tetras are bigger than the neon tetras and that the cardinals are also "hardier"

becarefull with those tho as my kribenses savaged 6 cardinals in about 3 hours! luckily i got my money back as i was told the incorrect information by my LFS

The cardinals have the red go all the way the length of the fish where the neons this is not the case. The cardinals are a bit hardier and prettier in my opinion but the cardinals and the neons are extremely sensitive fish. Given the proper water condtions however, there is no reason why they will not thrive in the home aquarium.

Cardinals are better looking, IMO. I'm not sure about hardiness, but I do know that BOTH are extremely sensitive.

They have a different body shape, too.

Hardiest? That one is really tough. In this area, LFS's will always have Neons, but Cardinals are much harder to find.

I really can't say which fish is more hardy, as my experience is only with Cardinals. I do know that they are very sensitive and need excellent water conditions.

I've bought neon tetras several times before and each time a few from the group would die off. From the many neons I have purchased, I only have 4 left.

I bought 9 cardinals and for my work tank and there is still 9 cardinals now. Even the one that I asked them to switch out because he had a twisted tail (which they decided to give to me for free) is doing fine and dandy. They've been in the tank for only 3 weeks though, but given that... the neons always started dwindling before 3 weeks were up.

CARDNIALS RULE!!! Neons are subject to all sorts of desies that cards are imune to. In my opinion they look just as cool and for biotope purposes come from the same areas.

I have 12 neons, 6 of which I got when my 20 gallon cycled, the rest I got while my 55 gallon was mini cycling (used media no spikes) and where all 12 now reside.
I have never lost one neon and they have got pretty big (for neons)...
I consider them one of the hardiest fish in my tank they seem to just keep going and going .. I base this on the fact I bought 12 and have never lost any where as I have bought 4 cory and lost one... etc..

Dont' have any experience with Cardinals though.
