Can you tell me which cichlids school?

I can't think of any non african that actually schools/shoals.

yah when talking about scholls you generally talk about tetras, barbs and danios.... most south american chiclids like tank mate of there species but it doesnt matter how many. solitary fish are fine...

for example... apistos and rams. both of them dont mind comapany from there same species. i would say apistos generally require 2-3 females per male but rams are not exactly like that.

Okay. That answers the question though. I'll probably get a non-cichlid fish to get the school effect (e.g. Rainbow or Congo Tetras).

Actually Oscars will 'shoal' if you have a big enough group and tank.

There are sardine-like species from Lake Tanganyika (ie. Cryptochromis spp.) that are natural schoolers.

Most species of SA or CA cichlids will school when they're fry or juvies, but they become territorial when they mature.
