Can you mix Gourami species?

Another question I haven't been able to find, I was wondering if you can mix dwarf gourami's and maybe a blue or gold or honey's. One of my dwarfs is a little jerk so maybe he needs to be put in his place?? Plus I wanna one more fish or a small school.

How big is your tank??

At the current moment I have a 70gallon thank, and I had bought two drawf gouramis and they didnt get along to well with each other, so I added another dwarf gourami for a total of three of them, and they get along alright now..

I also have two honey gourami's in the tank, they are my favorite fish in my tank!!! :thm:

The dwarf gouramis dont even seem to really pay much attention to the honeys... I'm planning to get two more honey gouramis for a total of four of them!

I'm not really sure about mixing the dwarfs with other gouramis... but in my experience dwarf and honeys are ok to go together
 
Yes they can be mixed, but depending on the size of your tank, you may have problems with them getting along. I wouldn't put more than one in less than a 29 gallon IMO. (does this mean in my opinion?) think of gouramis like bettas, they will attack any other of there kind for the most part. But sometimes they will just pick territories and stay and defend it.
 
yeah, dwarf gouramis dont seem to get to well with each other, why I added three and they seem fine...

But, honey gouramis I believe are good with being in groups..
 
huh, really, I have the 2 dwarfs and a female betta in a 20gh. I thought they were okay in even a 10 gallon. A few sites said they liked to be together, they don't seem to notice the betta though.
 
Good for you. It seems that people have mixed results. I have two dwarfs in a 29 that hate each other and fight, but mostly stay to there sides. Some people have had there gouramis kill each other. some find that the more you keep together the less aggression. So I think it just depends on the individual fish, since everyone I talk to seems to have different experiences with them.
 
Thanks, well, I had to move "Diablo" to his own 5 gallon for now, he had a bad fight with the other dwarf because I added some dwarf females they said that would help, but it didnt. So what would could I add to a 20gh with 1 dwarf male, 3 females and 1 female betta? lol the drama!!
 
I've got 3 together in a 10g, plenty of plants, clay pot, etc. I'm pretty sure they're all males :confused: Spike hangs out around the clay pot, Harry and Larry (I think they're "funny queer, not funny haha..." Billy Bob Thornton in Slingblade) are on the other side with plant and bridge. They mingle some, chase a bit, but no major skirmishes or battles!! Guess it's like all other living critters, some's gets along, some's don't!! Good luck!! :huh:
 
Maybe a school of white clouds? or some cory cats? I'm not reall sure what your stocking limit would be on a 20 gallon.
Personally, If the males were getting along fine, I'd lose the females and keep the males together, 'cause there more colorful. Think about it, men get along just fine until you through a pretty girl into the mix, same with fish, they'll fight over who gets the right to mate with her.

I have mixed gouramis with no problem. My tank has two opaline and a dwarf honey, two honey sunset died very recently but all got/get along just fine. The two opalines tend to chase each other alot, but most of the time they just hide in the plants.
