Can I put wheels on my tank?

is it on what kind of floor hardwood concrete or carpet with padding ? i would not attempt if it were on carpet because with that weight when you pushed it there is the
possibility of it messing up the carpet and or padding

I'm not looking at moving the tank full of water. I'm looking at draining the tank of the water and fish (obviously) and moving just the tank, stand and gravel in it. That would be less than 700 lbs obviously. I could easily lift that up 4-5 inches, lock the wheels in place, repeat on the other side and be ready to move it. Once in place, I would unlock the wheels, stow them, then fill the tank with water, decorations, etc....

Do you really move your tank often enough to make this necessary? Personally I try not to move my tanks much, let alone the bigger ones once they are set up. Draining and filling and transferring livestock? No thanks.

If you do find this absolutely necessary, they got some pretty decently cheap heavy duty casters at mcmaster.com, actually they have everything there. I could probably come up with a way to do this but it wouldnt be easy because any mounting part would have to be recessed and structurally sound otherwise your mounts are going to dent your floor good when you fill the tank.

Is your stand on carpet or hard floor? Wood cabinet or wrought iron? I have those "magic sliders" under my wrought iron stand (on top of laminate wood flooring) and if I empty the aquarium 75% I can easily slide my 55 gallon around.

I don't move the tank very often. When I do move it, invariably I have to move it alone as I live alone and it's a PITA to move it. It sounds like it would be even more of a PITA to add wheels to it though.

It wouldnt be too horrible so long as you have some planning and good ideas. Like platytudes said though, if you have hardwood floors those furniture mover pads should work magnificently.

Another thing is, if you have carpet and you use casters you run the risk of creating a ripple in the carpet from the weight and the rolling. they go away once you go over them, but getting the caster over them can sometimes be a pain.

I know what you mean on moving the tank though, I have been slowly building a 75g stand w/ canopy and everything and have to move it and the tank every so often by myself and it is fairly brutal.

So if you wanted to continue to entertain the idea, floor type and type of stand that you have are necessary information.

I stole/borrowed for an extended period of time a pair of dollies from work. I think for my purposes now I'm going to load the tank with one on each end. I basically need to haul it into my hallway (which is tile), fill it up and see if it leaks or not. I don't think it does, but I want to double check. If it doesn't, I'll have a bajillion and one questions on the best way to set the tank back up. It's failed on me twice now and I'm sick of breaking it down periodically.
