First it's alot of very interesting thread and information. I just wanted to say that I want to do some research and figure out which Cichlids can change sex when no male/female is present as this happened to me. I had a auratus cichlid that was gold/male and the tank boss for months, I then mistakenly bought a black auratus not know when they become dominant at a certain age within weeks I noticed them doing courting behavior having no idea what was going on just researched until I found out that they can change sex. They mated caught them out and put them in a tank by themselves. The female held the eggs, I was afraid the male would eat the babies and moved my black one back to the big cichlid tank. She then raised the babies just find. As soon as I thought she might have been eating them maybe not but regardless I wanted all males. I sold her and the babies in two different bags to protect the babies. Now after doing more research there is more than one Cichlid that can change sex not just depending on pH, Temperature, etc... They can change sex if either no males or no females are present so far I've found three other Cichlids that people have researched and said that they also can change sex in the same way. The auratus 100% can do it because it happened to me. I would love if anyone could put together a list of all cichlids that can do it. I can add to find post the other two that I have found out so far but if anyone knows Cichlids that can change sexes and can help put together a list that would be awesome. I'm currently worried about a female being in tank Ive been removing a couple at a time and seeing if they calm down. So far I've taken out 3 females 2 I know are females and one I think Is so far it's gotten much calmer but still watching intently. It's a slow painful process plus I work 52 hours a week 14 hours a day but I got blink cameras on a few tanks the Cichlid tanks being one off the ones that has a camera on it so I check on them throughout the day. Either gonna setup a all female tank or sell them, I am fond of all my fish and hate getting rid of them but whatever it takes to maintain peace. If anyone has anything to add or can help me put together that list, that would be awesome. Thanks for your time.
