Hi, All!:dance2:

I am still trying to figure things out on setting up my 20g high fish tank. Do you guys think is an overkill:eek: to put a canister filter on this tank? I know there are some really good HOB filter out there but I like the idea of being able to use different media that can be done on canisters. If it helps it is going to be a tropical freshwater planted tank.

Many Thanks,
PattyCakes:headbang2:

THERE are tons of this same topic

Sunsun, Cascade, ..... Search Best Canister

in your case HOB will be the best fit

Thanks, jasonG75!

i was leaning toward Aquaclear 70 for the HOB. What do you guys think?

I don't think a canister is overkill on a 20. It just depends on what model you get. I like the fluval canisters for ease of maintenance. I have been hearing a lot recently about the SunSun/Perfect filters recently though, and I might be looking into one of those for my next canister

One problem I've run into is the focused outflow of most canisters creates a lot of current in smaller tanks. This can easily be fixed by making a simple DIY spraybar from a small piece of PVC with lots or small holes in it to diffuse the flow and calm the water down a little. It can even be painted to blend in better with Krylon, or some other paint for plastics

I had an AC 50 on my 20g High and it worked well.

I was also wondering about the SunSUn canisters. A lot of threads on this filter lately. Thanks for the tip on the DIY spraybar idea!!:dance2:

Thanks, Taysius!
I'll keep my mind open on the Aquaclears.:dance2:

I have a JBJ Reaction 4 EFU-35 canister on my 20g. Not overkill at all.

Thanks, benzjamin!
Wait minute I never heard of JBJ Reaction 4 EFU-35 canister filter:omg:!
Have to do a search on AC and google. Thanks for the suggestion!:dance2:

The Reaction 4 is by JBJ, the same company that makes those Nano Cube tanks. The filter comes with a UV Sterilizer as well. It's like the Sunsun Canister.

i used to run a rena xp2 on a 20 gallon. used the spray bar and it didn't create too much current - my female betta had no issue at all in there and she was moved in to the 20 from a bowl. i like my renas, they're simple design, easy to clean, easy to assemble, and are quiet to run.
