I think your point is right, even to the point that some claim it depends on the fish personality. Haven't gotten there yet where I can read a fish like one of my cats. But maybe-just maybe this female Crabro I allowed to stay in my mbuna community tank is going to be the exception. All of the community now are so much more at ease today with both the bully Kenyi and male Crabro separated out. Even at feeding time there was no chasing off.
With the troublemakers in their own segregated dividers, I worry that they might jump over to my Angel or Oscar side of that tank so Ill have to make a decision about them soon. Wonder if I should start a bully tank?
