since i lost my breeding pair of discus i am doing everything i can to re-invest money made in the hobby to get more. i have decided to breed everything i can. i have a pair of blue rams that laid eggs this week, i just got a female clown pleco to go with my male, and a few female glolight tetras to go with my 4 males.

what i was wondering is if anyone had more detailed information on their luck with breeding clown plecos. more along the lines of how often and what some of the breeding signs are. will they be disturbed by my blue rams or tetras? anything helps, thanks!

You will need to keep your clown's in a species only tank. In order to breed them you will have to replicate the rainy season. Lower the temp a few degrees, increase water changes, and add power heads to increase water flow. You will also need lots of driftwood and caves for the females to lay eggs in. This seems like a lot of work for a fish that only sells for maybe $5. You would be better off trying to breed bristlenose plecos. They will breed in the same tank as your other fish and really don't need anything special to do it. There are some very nice varietis of BN's and some command a high price.

a friend of mine has a proven pair of bristlenose he wanted to sell me for $50

but what about the clown plecos? i have those. i set up a few broken pots around the tank and they keep going in them and chasing each other. i have never bred plecos before, i have bred my discus, rams, kribsand other africans. i am just looking for personal experience with breeding clown plecos
