I have a 3 gallon jar that houses 5 Blue Ramshorns, 3 Cherry Shrimp, and a few MTS. The ramshorns have been breeding like mad, and I have been anticipating having 40 or 50 blue snails soon, but all of the babies look red.:mad2: Is that just the red color of the bodies coming through an immature shell that hasn't developed it's blue color yet, or have these blues fooled me and gave me all red ramshorn babies?

Do they develop the blue coloration as they grow?

..i dont know about how blue grow up but i do know ramshorns are see threw until they reach a little larger size, i have red rams and they are see threw other than there bodies for a while like the size of an "o"..than they start to darken up....

not sure if that helps but some one else who knows should chime in ^_^
good luck.

It's probably genetic. I have reds, and a light brown colored (with spots) ramshorn snails and they throw out blues once in awhile. When I tried just keeping the blues separate, they in turn, threw out reds and some of the spotted browns, and other colors as well. And once in a great while I will see a few blues show up.

OK. I thought I had hit the jackpot and would have a jar full of 100 blue ramshorns! I'll wait for them to grow, and hopefully I get a few blues out of the bunch.

Blue ramshorn babies should be pinkish.
Their shells are sea through at first, so it shows their pinkish/reddish bodies, which make them look "pink".
They should have leopard spots at first too.
Once they get to a size of a pea, they should start showing blue colorations, if not, then you should cull them out.
At least, that's what i do with my blues ahaha.
