Bloodworms + Latex Gloves

I recently found out I'm allergic to bloodworms (My hands burn like mad and itch). This wasn't a problem, because my bf would give them to my bettas for me. He is going on business trip, and I was wondering if it would be safe to wear latex gloves to feed them (I have some left over from work, and although I'm also allergic to latex, the short amount of time I'd be wearing them won't bother me) or should I get the polyvinyl (or other non latex gloves) or is it not safe to wear any king of gloves? I feed them other food as well, so skipping their bloodworm treats wouldn't be terrible...
 
I recommend Nitrile gloves if you can find them :) You're much less likely to be allergic to them and they provide the full protection of latex. I wear them everyday in the EMS field..

I fill a shot glass with hot tap water & then pop out a cube of frozen blood worms into it. I use tweezers to warm up the worms & then feed my Bettas. Why not give that a try? You can avoid gloves all together.
 
You should skip them altogether if it is just a treat. Polyvinyl might be ok for you. Nitrile are usually allergen-free. I used to wear them daily with frequent changes with no ill-effects.
 
Thanks guys, I'll look for the nitrile gloves, but in the mean time I'll skip the bloodworms, seeing as they're freeze dried and not cubed.
 
Just use tweezers. Or sometimes I wet a toothpick and the freeze-dried worms stick to it, then just dip the toothpick back into the tank. as long as the fish won't attack te toothpick before you pull it out you should be ok.
 
Yeah skipping their bloodworm treats for some time wouldn't be a big issue , still if you want to continue feeding bloodworm to them ,use nitrile or polyvinyl gloves as precaution, some people have been reported as allergic to bloodworms, developing itch , redness ,red or runnng eyes or body rashes and or difficulty in breathing , though it occours to one or two out of thousands but those who have this problem should avoid contact to bloodworms(allergens) by all means possible because such allergic reactoins are said to be very painfull and deadly in some cases people have been reported to be taken to emergency regarding this allergy. lol

Prevention is better than cure and old but meaningful saying.

 
Thankfully the bf is back and they can have their treats again. I'm looking into some other treats available near me (since walmart only has bloodworms) in hopes they have something that won't make my hands burn.
 
I used to use a plastic syringe from a test kit but since that mysteriously disappeared I started using my plant tweezers! :)
